July 4th Bash

WOW what a great time!! Every year my parents host a July 4th Bash at their house. In Texas, it is illegal to pop fireworks within the city limits. So when we were younger, ,my cousins and grandparents would come over to our house (we lived in the country) and pop fireworks. What started out as 10 or so people is now, 122 people at the party today. My oh my, how big it has gotten. My Dad invites almost everyone he sees and it seems that those that he invites, come to the party, have such a good time and return the next year. The only requirement is that you come with your appetite and prepared to have a good time.

122 were counted this year. People started arriving at 1:30 to have a good time. We had a little mini water park set up for the kids. A giant water slide, a slip-n-slide complete with its own little slide, and a swimming pool. The sand box was also open for business. I am not sure how many little ones were there but I would guess 20+. Two sets of washers were set up for the adults and older kids to play. A lot of the "play" time was interrupted by a hard rainstorm that came in quick and lingered for about an hour. Although we did not want it to rain...at least it cooled things off. The menu included...fried fish, real homemade french fries, homemade hush puppies, hot dogs, beans, all types of salads, cookies, dips, chips, smoked chicken quarters and of course HOMEMADE ICE CREAM (vanilla, peach, chocolate, strawberry, orange sherbet). Everything was yummy. After the food settled, everyone gathered up in one big group and the kids started the firework show off with sparklers. We had a little time between sparklers and fireworks this year, so our entertainment ended up being my sister. She is such a comedian and show person. Love you sister. You surely know how to entertain the crowd. She lead us in a Texas Rainstorm, the chicken dance, the pledge of allegiance, she thanked my parents and she recognized those in the crowd that had serviced or is currently servicing in the military. The fireworks were the best ever for our party (Preston did not care for them...he and Thomas went inside so I could watch). All in all we had a great time.
